POWER

Ford is urging the UK government to pause its EV sales targets and reconsider penalties for manufacturers who fail to meet them, it said, cited by The Times.

  • The automaker is also calling for support in cutting VAT and public charging costs as “without customer incentives, the industry will struggle to meet the targets," Ford UK Chair Lisa Brankin said.
  • Ford is facing declining sales during its transition to electric vehicles, with previous PM Sunak delaying the petrol car ban to 2035 from 2030 – EV car registrations have slowed.
  • Under this year's ZEV mandate, 22% of manufacturers' output must be electric cars, with a £15,000 fine for each non-compliant vehicle – current sales suggest the industry will sell 18% of EVs this year.
