POWER: France November Extends Losses

POWER

France November power base load is extending Monday’s losses with downside pressure from forecasts for milder weather and losses in the energy complex. Industrial action in France on Tuesday has so far not curtailed any of EdF’s power generation capacity.

  • France Base Power NOV 24 down 1.2% at 78.5 EUR/MWh
  • Germany Base Power NOV 24 down 2.6% at 87.3 EUR/MWh
  • EUA MAR 25 down 1.6% at 65.2 EUR/MT
  • TTF Gas NOV 24 down 1.9% at 38.3 EUR/MWh
  • Nuclear availability in France has increased to 70% as of Tuesday morning, up from 69% of capacity on Monday, RTE data showed, cited by Bloomberg.
  • So far, no nuclear or hydropower output has been curtailed after EdF’s announcement last week, that production might be curtailed for 24h starting 30 September 21:00 CET due to industrial action.
  • The latest 6-10 day ECMWF weather forecast suggested mean temperatures in Paris have been revised higher at the end of the forecast period and are below the seasonal average until 6 October, before rising above normal.
  • Power demand in France is forecast to rise to a maximum of 52.8GW on Tuesday and of 53.42GW on Wednesday, Entso-E data showed.
  • RTE has yet to announce its planned export curtailments on its eastern borders for October. RTE announced September curtailments on 27 August and said it will update the value for the October period end of September.
  • Separately in Belgium, Engie has extended the ongoing maintenance at the Doel 4 nuclear reactor due to issues at the unit’s concrete dome, a spokesperson said, cited by Bloomberg. Latest remit data from 25 Sept showed maintenance is scheduled to end on 30 Nov, from 23 Oct previously scheduled.
