POWER

Germany dropped sharply from the previous session amid higher wind forecasts on the day and a drop in demand, with France rising owing to a lower domestic wind generation, while its consumption is expected to increase.

  • The German day-ahead spot settled at €59.73/MWh from €83.07/MWh on the previous day.
  • The French day-ahead spot cleared at €47.56/MWh from €33.86/MWh on the previous day.
  • FR-DE discount was at €12.17/MWh from €49.21/MWh discount in the previous session.
  • German wind is expected at just 30.23GW, or a 47% load factor on 10 Oct – up from 27% forecasts for today – but is expected to fall to a 24% load factor on 11 Oct – likely supporting delivery costs.
  • Power demand in Germany is forecast to fall on the day to around 54.03GW on Thursday from about 55.3GW estimated for today. Demand will then drop on 11 Oct to around 52.8GW.
  • In France, wind forecast points to output at 6.06GW, or a 30% load factor on 10 Oct – down from 45% expected for today. Wind will then fall to a just 9% load factor the next day – possibly lifting delivery costs.
  • French demand is anticipated at 47GW on 10 Oct up from 46.1GW today.
  • French nuclear availability was at 72% of capacity as of Wednesday morning from Tuesday’s 68%, RTE data showed, cited by Bloomberg.
  • The 910MW Gravelines 1 unit is anticipated to return to the grid on 9 Oct, with the 1.31GW Gravelines 3 back on 13 Oct.
