POWER: Germany to Support Ukraine’s Energy Sector This Winter

Germany is giving €100mn of state aid to Ukraine for their energy supply this winter, following Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure according to the German foreign ministry.  

  • "Ukraine is facing another winter of war and Putin is waging a brutal war of cold," the ministry said via X.
  • "Russia is deliberately attacking Ukraine's heat and energy supply. This is why Germany is providing a further 100 million euros in winter aid for the (Ukrainian) energy supply.
  • Ukraine’s DTEK previously said it plans to restore up to 70% of its electricity generation lost by Russian attacks by October ahead of the winter.
  • Russia has destroyed around 9GW of Ukraine’s power generation capacity since the start of March.
