Iberdrola received the environmental greenlight for the construction of a 440MW hydro pumped storage power plant in western Spain according to RenewablesNow. 

  • The new plant will be using two existing reservoirs on the Tagus river.
  • The project, Alcantara II, will add a new pumping station and underground tunnels to connect the low-level reservoir Cedillo and the higher-level Alcantara.
  • The project was awarded a state grant of €44.9mn by Spain’s IDEA.
  • Iberdrola did not disclose a timeline for the project yet.
