Energy prices in Italy are unlikely to decrease soon as the country is not increasing its generation capacity, while consumption is rising, Enel CEO Flavio Cattaneo said during the Q3 results. 

  • "In Italy we have a structural problem - we aren't increasing generation, but we are increasing consumption”, Cattaneo said.
  • He added that unlike France, Italy has no nuclear power capacity and to install new nuclear power plants will take a long time.
  • Italy intends to build new nuclear capacity and plans to present an industrial entity by the end of the year that will be capable of building the country’s new nuclear fleet, energy minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said this month.
