POWER

The Italian Energy Ministry has greenlit last week the constriction of the Bolano-Annunziata subsea power cable, connecting Sicily and Calabria according to Terna.

  • The proposed 380-kV AC cable will boost transmission capacity between mainland Italy and Sicily by up to 2GW.
  • “With the new infrastructure, the Island will be connected by three 380 kV power lines to the mainland, which will make the integration of the growing renewable energy production in Sicily even more efficient within the national electrical system,” Giuseppina Di Foggia, Terna CEO, said.
  • Terna did not disclose further information on the timeline of the project.
