POWER: National Grid Sells System Operator to UK Government

National Grid agreed to sell its electricity system operator to the UK government, with the UK now planning to launch a publicly owned National Energy System Operator (NESO) on 1 October, the government said. 

  • The deal is expected to help the UK to achieve its green energy targets, with the UK aiming for a net zero on the power grid by the end of the decade, ramping up the roll-out of renewables.
  • The government is planning to bring electricity and gas network planning under one roof.
