POWER: NGO's Take EU to Court On Stricter Emission Targets

Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe and Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) have taken legal action against the EU to toughen its emissions targets, the groups said, cited by Quantum Intelligence.

  • A court decision in favour of the NGOs could have a significant impact on the EU ETS as stricter caps could lead to higher prices – further supporting the ETS2 that is due to start in 2027, according to Quantum.
  • "The EU has to ramp up emissions reduction and achieve at least a 65% (gross) cut by 2030 if it wants to be a credible actor,” CAN Europe said.
  • The verdict is expected in early 2026.
