POWER: Poland Approves 4GW Offshore Wind Auction for 2025, 12GW by 2031

POWER

Poland has given the green light for its 4GW offshore wind auction slated for bidding in 2025, with a total of 12GW expected to be tendered by 2031, it said today.

  • Polish energy regulator URE will conduct the auction for next year.
  • Poland is now set to deliver an additional 4GW in 2027 and 2GW in both 2029 and 2031. This is up from a total of 5GW originally planned, it added.
  • However, subsequent auctions for 2027, 2029, and 2031 will be reviewed considering the 2022 Guidelines on State Aid for Climate, Environmental Protection, and Energy objectives (CEEAG).
  • In early November, the Climate Ministry said that the government would implement varied maximum prices to better align with specific project characteristics and help minimise costs for end users.
  • Slightly different from what was said last month, when it announced it would raise the maximum price in the upcoming offshore wind auction to 512.32 zloty/MW (€117/MW), up from the previously proposed 471.83 zloty/MW, according to Bloomberg.
