POWER: Poland Dec Rebounds to Fresh High, DA Could Climb on 27 Nov

POWER

Poland’s Dec power contract rebounded from the previous session to reach a fresh all-time high as gains in emissions and coal supported the contract. However, temperatures are still set to be above the norm throughout most of the 6-10-day ECMWF forecasts. Day ahead prices soared for delivery on 26 Nov from the previous day amid a sharp drop in wind output, with wind the next day dropping further – likely lifting spot prices.

  • Poland Dec24 baseload power settled at PLN469.90/MWh compared to its settled price of PLN459.29/MWh on 22 Nov, according to data on Polish power exchange TGE. The contract hit a fresh high and has been on a general upward trend since September.
  • EUA DEC 24 up 1.6% at 70.36 EUR/MT
  • Rotterdam Coal DEC 24 up 0.04% at 123.6 USD/MT at 14:13 BST
  • The Dec contract traded 32 times in 42 lots from 16 lots exchanged in the previous session.
  • Dec opened at PLN464/MWh – the low for the day – before rising to PLN471/MWh – the high for the day – towards the end of the session.
  • Closer in, the day-ahead rose to PLN645.50/MWh for Tuesday delivery from PLN313.67/MWh for Monday amid wind output forecasts to be at 3.42GW tomorrow compared to 6.69GW today.
  • Looking slightly ahead, wind is expected to drop to 1.64GW on 27 Nov (Wed) – which may lift delivery prices. Wind will then be between 2.78-2.84GW over 28-29 Nov.
  • Average temperatures in Warsaw are set to be above the seasonal norm over 26 Nov- 2 Dec and will only dip slightly below over 3-4 Dec before flipping back above over 5-6 Dec.
