POWER: Serbia to Mothball Two Coal Plants for Reserve

POWER

Serbia’s EPS has launched a tender to mothball two coal-fired plants – 125MW Morava and 271MW Kolubara - to put the plants in the strategic reserve according to Balkan Green Energy News.

  • The purpose of the tender is to analyse the procedures for the long-term suspension of the two power plants.
  • The two units accounted for 1.7% of EPS total power production in 2023.
  • Both plants must stop operations as they have not met the EU’s emissions standards.
  • The Kolubara plant was previously scheduled to be decommissioned by 2030, while Morava has been considered for cold reserve or decommissioning.
