Renewable auctions in Spain, which have been paused due to under subscriptions, can still support Spain’s transition and work alongside PPAs, developers said at the Spanish El Economista conference today, cited by Montel.

  • State-run auctions provide a long-term fixed price, which is a strength, but there are limitations – including commissioning deadlines, according to CEO of Greenalian Maria Moreno said.
  • “There must be PPAs, there must be auctions, there must be forward markets, RWE Renewables Iberia added.
  • But tenders must not distort price signals, according to RWE.
  • The Spanish government has not given an exact date on when it plans to resume state-run auctions.
