POWER: UK's Succesful AR6 Auction Shows "Restored Confidence"

POWER

The 9.6GW of awarded capacity in the UK's AR6  auction indicates “that investor confidence in the UK market is returning,” amid a failure in the auction last year, RenewablesUK said.

  • The price aligns with recent global auctions and reflects the combined effects of inflation and high financing costs due to elevated interest rates, according to RenewablesUK.
  • “Power generated by the successful projects will save nearly £3bn a year compared to the alternative cost of gas by 2030,” the company said.
  • The UK awarded 3.29GW of solar PV projects in the latest AR6 auction at a strike price of £50.07/MWh, with 3.36GW of offshore wind at £58.87/MWh – 2012 inflation-indexed price.
