PPP Leader Proposes Cutting At Least 30 National Assembly Seats-Yonhap

SOUTH KOREA

Yonhap News Agency reports that ruling People Power Party's leader Kim Gi-hyeon proposed reducing the number of lawmakers by at least 30 starting in next year's general election.

  • This comes as parliament is set to establish a committee to discuss possible reforms of the country's electoral regulations.
  • Note that the PPP props up President Yoon's minority government, holding just 115 seats in the 300-member National Assembly.
  • Yonhap notes that 57% of respondents in a recent Gallup survey said that it would be desirable to reduce the number of lawmakers.
