Preliminary Q4 GDP Readings On Tap Today, January CPI Inflation Up Tomorrow

  • Poland's flash GDP readings for Q4 will cross the wires at the top of the hour. Economic growth may have slowed to +2.2% Y/Y in the final three months of last year, according to the consensus forecast in a Bloomberg poll of economists.
  • Wednesday's release of January CPI numbers will take focus thereafter, with the market expecting consumer inflation to have accelerated to +17.6% Y/Y from +16.6%. Most see the anticipated spike as temporary, with the NBP expecting inflation to cool after Q1.
  • Government spokesman Piotr Muller noted that the Cabinet is awaiting the Constitutional Court's verdict on judiciary reforms required to secure access to EU recovery funds. Muller said that the government believes that the bill would not violate the constitution and has legal advice to prove it.
