President Pick for IBGE Chief Alarms Government Officials

BRAZIL
  • Social Communications Minister Paulo Pimenta announced that President Lula has decided to pick Marcio Pochmann, an economist known for his heterodox views, to head up the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics known as IBGE.
  • The choice has raised concerns among members of his own government, regarding the future of the institution.
