Presidential Election Voting Starts, India Halts Purchase of EPSO Crude

  • Voting starts in the Russian presidential elections. While there is little doubt that President Vladimir Putin will be elected president for a fifth term, the election will provide a rare opportunity to gather data on Putin’s level of support amongst the Russian population.   • India, the biggest buyer of Russian seaborne oil exports, has not bought Russian premium ESPO crude for two months, Kpler data showed. Kommersant write that India had previously slashed imports of Russian Sokol oil over disagreements about payments, as well as due to buyers' fears of sanctions.
  • There are no major economic releases left on the docket today. The CBR key rate decision is the highlight next week (Mar 22).
