Price Strength All Around, With Median Likely To Have Soared

DATA REACT

Price strength all around in this report, with both Goods and Services contributing strongly to October's outturn.

  • Both core Goods +1.0% M/M (+0.25% prior) and core Services +0.45% M/M (+0.24% prior) would have been some of the highest prints in decades apart from the last few months.
  • Inflation boutique fund manager Michael Ashton on Twitter estimates median CPI at +0.57% M/M which would "easily" be the highest since 1982, and he also notes that the only category that fell more than 10% annualized (jewelry and watches), vs 19 that rose more than 10% annualized.
  • We await confirmation from the Cleveland Fed later today, as they compile the most-watched median CPI metric.
