Prime Minister Torres Says Proposed Referendum Is Not Unconstitutional

  • Peru's Prime Minister Anibal Torres on Tuesday affirmed that the Executive Branch's bill aimed at putting a referendum on the ballot asking voters whether they wish to convene a Constituent Assembly to draft a new constitution for Peru is not unconstitutional at all. (Andina)
  • The IMF projected that Peru's inflation rate will be 4% in 2022, from a level of 6.4% in 2021, adding that exports will continue to expand.
    • According to a release, the IMF said that inflationary pressures could be more persistent, requiring faster tightening of monetary policy.
    • In this sense, the IMF projects that inflation rate in Peru will stand at 4% this year, while the level will decrease to 3% in 2023, adding that it will continue to decrease to 2.3% in 2024.
