Putin Accuses Ukraine of Bridge Attack, Sakhalin-1 Transferred to Russian Ownership

RUSSIA
  • President Putin accused Ukraine of carrying out an attack that damaged a key bridge linking annexed Crimea to the Russian mainland. The bridge not only provided a key supply route for the Russian troops operating in southern Ukraine but bears notable symbolic significance.
  • “The authors, the executors, the commissioners are Ukraine’s secret services,” Putin said at a meeting with the chairman of Russia’s Investigative Commission, his first comments since the Crimean bridge blast.
  • Separately, Bloomberg report that Putin has signed a decree to transfer operations of the Sakhalin-1 oil and gas project to Russia, a move that could lead to the final withdrawal of Exxon Mobil Corp. from the nation’s Far East having previously said that they intend on quitting the project. Foreign stakeholders have a month to declare if they’ll maintain their stakes in the new company.
  • There are no notable economic data releases or speakers scheduled today.
