Putin And Lukashenko To Discuss Situation In Ukraine On Tuesday

RUSSIA

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is travelling to Russia's Far East on Monday ahead of his meeting with Russian's President Vladimir Putin scheduled for the following day. The leaders will visit the Vostochny Cosmodrome and hold a joint press conference after their talks.

  • This was reported by Russian and Belarussian state media over the weekend and confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
  • Despite the suggestive location and timing of the summit (Russian Cosmonautics Day), Putin and Lukashenko are reportedly set to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
  • Last week, Lukashenko noted that Belarus should be involved in negotiations with Ukraine, while Russia proposed that Misk should join the list of countries-guarantors of Ukraine's security in a future peace agreement.
  • Although its military forces do not officially participate in Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Belarus has served as a staging post for Russian attacks as well as provided logistical and political support.
