Putin Says Objectives in Ukraine Have Not Yet Been Achieved

  • President Vladimir Putin said Russia hasn’t achieved its objectives in Ukraine yet, adding in an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that he would consider negotiations if the US stops supplying weapons to Kyiv, Bloomberg report. “We haven’t yet achieved our goals,” Putin said. “We’re conveying to the US leadership that if you really want to stop military action, then you need to stop supplying weapons, then it will all be over in a few weeks and we’ll be able to discuss some terms.”
  • The narrow monetary base in Russia stood at RUB 18.010trln on February 2, down 0.11% or RUB 19.8bln from January 26, the Central Bank reported on Friday.
  • There are no other data releases on the docket today. CPI data and the CBR rate decision are the key events of next week. Headline CPI is seen declining slightly from +7.42% y/y in December to +7.26% in January, while the CBR are expected to keep rates unchanged at 16%.
