Putin: "We Are Ready For Talks"

RUSSIA

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on Ukraine to cease military action and return to the negotiating table in an address to the Kremlin during which he formally recognised referendums held in four occupied Ukrainian territories to cede to the Russian Federation.

  • Putin's comments per Reuters: "We are ready for talks."
  • Putin: "People have made their choice at referendums in Ukraine's territory."
  • "We call on Kyiv to immediately stop military action and return to negotiating table."
  • "Kyiv should recognise the will of the people"
  • "Kyiv regime has threatened those who took part in referendums with repression."
  • Putin's address comes as Ukraine makes substantial inroads in a new push in their counteroffensive in northeastern Ukraine.
  • Zelensky expected to dismiss Putin's call for negotiations. Both Kyiv and Washington have declared referendums fraudulent and announced intentions to pursue the liberation of all Ukrainian territory for "as long as it takes" - underpinned by most recent US military aid package, announced this week, which has a 12-18 month delivery time.
