Qatar Reshuffles LNG Cargoes Amid Longer Journey Times

LNG

Qatar has changed course of the Al Gattara LNG vessel to the Adriatic terminal in Italy, after it was first headed to Zeebrugge, showing the producer’s reshuffling of cargoes amid longer journey times via the Cape of Good Hope according to ICIS LNG Edge.

  • The tanker is currently sailing off the coast of Portugal, Bloomberg ship tracking data showed.
  • Qatar announced on Monday to divert tankers away from the Red Sea following heightened tensions in the region.
  • The producer seems to switch some destinations of cargoes that are already in Europe, given the longer journey time via the Cape of Good Hope. The alternative route to Europe round the Cape of Good Hope could add around nine days to the 18-day voyage from Qatar, said ICIS LNG analyst Alex Froley.
  • Qatar has a long-term contract to supply Italy's Edison with regular cargoes.
