HONG KONG: Quick musings on the HK Bill matter:
- To me, the "slight differences" between the House & Senate Bills re: Hong Hong
are pretty inconsequential. Unanimous Senate support & broader bipartisan
support in both houses means that a Bill should be easily ratified between the
two.
- The fact that the likes of McConnell & Pence have started to speak out on
goings on in Hong Kong puts even more pressure on Trump, adding further weight
to the bipartisan support.
- While he is no doubt hesitant to do so, I can't really see a way that he can
avoid supporting the Bill (albeit not necessarily with his typical grandeur),
without stoking widespread uproar on both sides of the aisle.
- Trump will then have 10 days to sign the Bill into law or veto it, providing a
Bill can pass through both houses.
