FOREX: Quieter finish to the week, but NFP could change that
-After a tumultuous few sessions, G10 FX started the Friday session on a quieter
note, with most pairs trading well within their recent ranges. NZD is the modest
outperformer with NZD/USD bouncing off the 200-dma at yesterday's lows. The
Thursday highs are yet to be troubled, however.
-Similarly, the USD has edged higher ahead of the NY crossover, but markets are
likely to keep the powder dry until today's NFP release, with expectations for a
headline chance in NFP of 198k and the unemployment rate seen holding steady at
3.7%.
-European data came through largely mixed, with poor German industrial
production data countered by better French numbers, but had little effect on the
EUR in the European morning.
-Outside of the US nonfarm payrolls release, Canadian jobs data is also due,
with prelim Uni. of Michigan data for December. Fed's Brainard is also due to
speak in Washington at 1715GMT.
