Some travel demand indicators from the US Thanksgiving holiday travel:

  • TSA screened 2,907,378 people at US airports Sunday – the highest daily number on record.
  • American Airlines said it had nearly 6.5 million customers over the Thanksgiving holiday - a record high for the airline.
  • United Airlines said it had a record high of 3.2 million travelers ahead of Thanksgiving, from Nov. 17 to Nov. 23.
  • Despite strong holiday travel by road and cheaper pump prices, GasBuddy figures showed demand fell to 8.304mn bpd last week, down 2.6% vs the prior week and was 3.3% below the four-week average.
  • It compared to a figure of 8.338mn bpd for Thanksgiving week last year. Factors such as higher levels of electrification and more fuel-efficient vehicles appear to be denting gasoline demand on a historical basis as well as a switch to more travel by air.
