REFINING: NNPC to Supply 13 Crude Cargoes to Dangote in October

REFINING

Nigeria's NNPC will supply a total of 13 crude cargoes to the Dangote refinery in October to help ease pressure on local gasoline supply, according to Adedapo Segun, the head of downstream operations cited by Reuters.

  • NNPC reported earlier this week it is facing gasoline shortages because finance issues leave it unable to purchase enough imports leading to widespread gasoline shortages in Nigeria which started in July.
  • The government plan to sell crude locally in naira, is supporting the Dangote Oil refinery with 7 cargoes in September and a further 13 cargoes in October.
  • "So we are doing everything we can to make sure this situation (fuel shortages) abates, as soon as possible," Segun said.
  • Dangote refinery officials this week confirmed that the refinery was getting ready to export gasoline by the end of the week after the start of operations of the gasoline reformer.
  • Nigeria current depends on gasoline imports, but the country aims to be more self-sustainable in oil products production from the start of Dangote as well as with plans to upgrade to other mothballed refineries.
