The global renewable energy expansion is falling short of targets to triple renewable capacity to 11.2TW by 2030, with current NDCs and targets only delivering half of the planned growth, IRENA said. 

  • Current plans and targets suggested the renewable expansion will fall short of 3.8TWh of capacity, or by 34%.
  • Annual investment in renewable capacity would need to triple to $1.5tn/yr between 2024 and 2030 to achieve the targets.
