US: Rep Luna Says Vote On 'Similar' Funding Bill At 10:00 ET 15:00 GMT

US

Rep Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), a close ally of President-elect Donald Trump, has told reporters outside Speaker Mike Johnson's office that Republican leadership intends to hold a vote on a new government funding plan at 10:00 ET 15:00 GMT

  • Reece Gorman at NOTUS that Luna said, "they are close to a deal on the CR and that there will be “no deal with the Democrats.” Says there will be votes at 10 am. It will be something very similar to yesterday, she said."
  • Note: There has been no official word from Republican leadership, and no details yet on whether the debt limit suspension measure would be included in the bill. Regardless, holding a vote on a similar bill to yesterday's failed bill appears to make the prospect of a shutdown more likely.
  • Trump said in a statement on Truth Social a short time ago, whilst a meeting between Vice President-elect JD Vance, Trump's nominee to head the OMB Russ Vought, and the Freedom Caucus was underway: "If there is going to be a shutdown of government, let it begin now, under the Biden Administration, not after January 20th, under “TRUMP.” This is a Biden problem to solve, but if Republicans can help solve it, they will!"
  • Politico reported this morning, "Johnson and Trumphave been seriously contemplating whether it’s best to simply allow a shutdown to happen. We're told that both men’s teams spent last night weighing what they view as the positives and negatives."
