US DATA PREVIEW: REPEAT: Hurricanes are expected to slightly stunt the number of
housing starts and building permits issued, with median expectations for housing
starts at 1.170 million and building permits at 1.245 million, both down from
August. However, with a range of 1.144 million to 1.220 million for housing
starts, there is a clear degree of uncertainty. While analysts worry that
hurricane effects and shortages of building supplies and skilled laborers may
result in a soft report, others predict that a recent increase in demand will be
enough to lift housing starts modestly above its recent declines.
