Reports Suggest Israel Agreed To Ceasefire In Southern Gaza

ISRAEL

Reuters reports that Egypt, Israel and the US agreed to a ceasefire in southern Gaza beginning at 07:00BST/09:00IDT to coincide with the re-opening of the Rafah border crossing, citing information from two Egyptian security sources.

  • According to Reuters, "the sources said the ceasefire would last for several hours but they were not clear on the exact duration," while "the three countries had agreed that Rafah would be open until 1400 GMT on Monday as a one-day initial re-opening".
  • Kan reports that Hamas Communications Bureau said that they "have no information regarding an agreement on a humanitarian ceasefire" with the report yet to be officially confirmed.
  • US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is en route to Israel and is expected to touch down in the country around 10:00BST/12:00IDT. The official will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
