Rhine River water levels at the Maxau measuring point rose to 6.52m on Monday, the highest since 17 July and above the five-year maximum for this time of the year, Germany’s Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration showed. 

  • High water levels on the Rhine River can prevent travel under some bridges.
  • Cost of shipping gasoil on barges to Basel was 17 Swiss CHF/ton on 3 January, compared with 18 CHF/ton a day earlier.
  • Water levels at the Kaub measuring point were last at 2.76m – below the five-year average of 3.02m.
