Four steps of unwinding lockdown in England:

  • March 8: Schools reopen
  • March 29: 2 households or multiple households up to 6 people can meet outdoors, Outdoor sport allowed
  • April 12:Non-essential retail and Hairdressers allowed to reopen/ Outdoor hospitality allowed. Gyms & swimming pools reopen. Self-catered holidays allowed.
  • May 17: Hotels/ BnBs reopen. Hospitality allowed indoors. Fans return to sport events
  • All these dates are the earliest at which each point can happen. Johnson makes it clear all reliant on data.
  • Steven Swinford at The Times tweets
    • "Foreign travel could be allowed from May 17. DfT is conducting a review which will look at how to increase foreign travel which will report back by April 12".
    • Social distancing restrictions will remain in place until June 21 at earliest. Work from home where you can guidance will remain in place until June 21 at earliest.
    • The Government is conducting a formal review into whether there should be a Covid-certification scheme. It could see restrictions lifted sooner for those who are vaccinated or tested. Up until today the Govt has repeatedly said such an approach would be discriminatory & wrong."
