Romania Targets 5GW of Battery Storage by 2026

Romania is planning to install at least 5GW of battery storage by 2026, with about 2.5GW in operation by next year, the energy minister Sebastian Burduja said, cited by RenewablesNow.

  • Romania has allocated €80mn to support the development of energy storage, with about 1.8GW of capacity anticipated to be awarded and contracts signed in September.
  • The country also recently adopted a bill that will mandate solar prosumers that have PV capacities between 10.8-400kW to install energy storage systems, according to Bloomberg.
