/RUSSIA: Israel Concludes That Wagner Mutiny Exposed "Profound Russian Weakness"

According to an internal document leaked to Channel 13 yesterday, Israel's government held a situational assessment as the Wagner rebellion was unfolding in Russia, concluding that the event showed a "profound Russian weakness," both domestically and externally.

  • Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has reportedly been instructed to study the implications of the short-lived Wagner revolt on Russia's relations with Iran and the situation in Syria. Officials have also reportedly discussed the possibility of a "large wave of immigration from Russia."
  • Israel has kept a low profile in the Russia-Ukraine situation due to its sensitive relations with Moscow, with both countries maintaining military activity in Syria. Over the weekend, the Ukrainian embassy accused Israel's "neutrality" of being a "clear pro-Russian position" in disguise.
  • Israel denied these accusations, arguing that it provided Kyiv with $22mn worth of humanitarian aid. The Israeli Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador today to reprimand him for the embassy's statement.
