RUSSIA: Putin Requests Restrictions of Exports of Strategic Resources

- President Putin has ordered the prime minister to consider restricting exports of certain types of strategic resources, such as uranium, titanium and nickel, Kommersant report. Citing analysts, the newspaper add that the most likely scenario will be licensing of exports, which will make it more difficult for western companies to buy Russian resources and could push up prices.
- Gas production in Russia will grow by 6% to 676bcm in 2024, the Price Index Center said in a report cited by Vedomosti. The forecast was raised from the 669bcm projected in June in light of the surge in domestic demand due to unusually hot weather over the summer.
- The Bank of Russia reports August current account balance data at 14:00BST/16:00 local time. Looking ahead, the CBR rate decision takes focus tomorrow, where analysts remain split over whether the central bank will opt for a 100bp rate hike or keep its key rate unchanged at 18%.
