Russia's Red Lines in Focus as Ukraine's Zelensky Meets With Biden

Some Details RE Zelensky's US visit:

  • Zelensky will meet with several ministers including U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and end with a face-to-face meeting with Biden in the White House on Sept. 1.
  • Zelensky is accompanied by First Lady Olena Zelenska, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Defense Minister Andriy Taran and Naftogaz Head Yuriy Vitrenko.
  • Zelensky noted three defense agreements that should be signed, alongside " important things concerning economic cooperation coming up"* "There will also be a big discussion concerning the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, there must be an energy agreement signed"
  • Zelensky is also expected to discuss additional military aid to defend against Russian aggression, as well as NATO membership.
  • Key red lines for Russia will be on NATO accession and the provision of military aid in light of recent anti-Russian rhetoric at the Crimea Platform summit where Zelensky clearly articulated his desires to retake the Crimean Peninsula from Russia
