Russia Supplied More Gas than US to EU in May

NATGAS

The combined Russian pipeline natural gas and LNG volume in May 24 exceeded US supply into EU and UK for the first time in 21 months, according to ICIS.

  • The shift is partly driven by low overall gas demand weighing on LNG imports. LNG imports in May were the second lowest since the start of 2022.
  • The US Freeport export terminal works during April may also have weighed on US May arrivals to Europe.
  • Russia pipe supplies have also been boosted by maintenance on TurkStream in June while more Russian LNG has been landing in the EU due to the avoidance of Suez.
