Russia, Turkey Foreign Ministers Discuss Grain Deal Over Phone

  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, held a telephone conversation on Tuesday, TASS report.
  • "During the call, [the two foreign ministers] discussed the latest developments as part of the Istanbul grain deal and the purchase of large-size planes from Russia to manage wildland fires," a Turkish diplomat told a TASS reporter.
  • Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia could resume its participation in the deal when the provisions regarding Moscow are implemented.
  • Comments from the Kremlin hit wires earlier today warning that a potential plan by Ukraine and Turkey to continue operating Black Sea grain exports would carry "risks" without security guarantees in place from Russia as the "relevant waters are used by Ukraine for military activities."
