Russian Attacks Further Hit Ukraine’s Power Sector

Russian missile and drone attacks overnight have further destroyed Ukrainian energy infrastructure and caused serious damage at one of its thermal power plants, officials said, cited by Reuters.

  • "The enemy attacked several energy infrastructure facilities," the energy ministry said on Thursday.
  • Russian attacks have hit energy infrastructure sites in four regions, the ministry added.
  • Aerial attacks have caused serious damage at one of Ukraine’s thermal power plants, which had already been previously damaged by attacks, Ukraine’s DTEK said.
  • "This is already the seventh mass attack on the company's thermal power plant in the last three months," DTEK added.
  • Earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had destroyed around 9GW of Ukraine’s power generation capacity since the start of March.
