Russian Clean Product Arrival's Slump in February

OIL PRODUCTS

Russian clean petroleum product (CPP) exports have moved slightly lower on a m-o-m basis in the first 15 days of February but the decline is less than 200kbd from a near three-year high of 1.9mbd in January according to Vortexa.

  • Russia’s diesel exports still remain 10% above pre-invasion average (Jan 2020 – Feb 2022) in February.
  • Average arrivals for imports of Russian CPP in the first 15 days of February into core European markets have slumped by 700kbd to just 130kbd.
  • This fall into Europe has not been matched by imports into alternative markets as vessels take longer to arrive to new destinations. There are questions over whether all CPP flows on the water have buyers.
  • Alternative destinations are emerging in the Middle East, West Africa and especially more recently to Brazil.
