Russian Crude Exports Remain High while China Increasing Intake: Vortexa

OIL

Russian crude exports continue at high rates according to Vortexa, with Chinese imports now picking up markedly (see chart).

  • Aframax tankers carry most of the volume, with Kalamata and Ceuta STS movements contributing to tonne-miles demand.
  • Only a limited amount of Russian oil is in floating storage, partly a function of longer discharge times in Africa and other new destinations. Vortexa disputes claims of higher volumes ending up in floating storage at present, instead finding that discharge procedures in new developing markets are taking longer.
  • As exports are rather rising than falling - across the board for crude, clean and dirty products - at least some doubts can be raised about Russian claims to cut oil production this month.
