Russian Diesel Exports Seen Slipping on Refinery Attacks

OIL PRODUCTS

Russian diesel exports are slipping and will inevitably fall further over the coming months according to Vortexa due to Russian refinery drone strikes.

  • Russian refining capacity has been hit by persistent Ukrainian drone attacks, knocking its ability to put refined products onto global markets. (Market sources place offline capacity between 500-900kbd)
  • Diesel-specific units are affected leading to lower diesel exports but potentially higher fuel oil and VGO exports Vortexa said.
  • Russian refineries are usually in the midst of peak refinery maintenance Mar-May, something they will seek to shift to alleviate refining tightness at present.
  • The runs of diesel-making units will be prioritised, leading potentially to a lower impact than what crude runs may imply Vortexa said.
