Russian FM: US Did Not Support Putin Proposal Of Meeting w/Biden

US-RUSSIA

The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a comment stating that the US gov't did not support the proposal from President Vladimir Putin for a virtual meeting between himself and US President Joe Biden over the weekend.

  • Putin made the proposal late last week following a series of barbs traded between the two leaders. In an ABC interview Biden, when asked if he thought Putin was a killer replied "Mhmm. I do." Biden also said that Putin would "pay the price" for any election interference.
  • Putin responded that he "wished Biden good health" and on the 'killer' comment stated that "it takes one to know one."
  • The offer of a bilateral meeting was made very late in the week, likely with the knowledge that the offer would not be taken up.
