Russian Foreign Minister To Visit South Africa Ahead Of Joint Naval Drill

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit South Africa to meet with his local counterpart Naledi Pandor on January 23, South Africa's Department of International Relation and Cooperation said in a statement.

  • South Africa is also planning to go ahead with a joint naval exercises with Russia and China from February 17 to February 26, which will likely draw the ire of Western nations that are the country's largest trading partners.
  • During its recent elective conference, the ruling ANC party's elective conference issued a document criticising NATO members for shipping weapons to Ukraine while noting that China was a target of "geopolitical tensions and trade wars" by the West.
