Russian LPG Volumes to China More Than Double 2022

Russia more than doubled its rail exports of LPG to China in 2022 as the Kremlin focuses on its strategy to move higher energy volumes to Asia now it has largely lost the west as a market.

  • Exports of LPG to China rose to 147,100 tonnes from 62,600 a year earlier.
  • Demand from China was limited in 2022 because of lockdown measures but is expected to increase as the economy recovers. LPG volumes from Russia to China will however face constraints because of current logistical limitations moving volumes by rail.
