Russian Wheat Exports Set to Double in 1H2023

  • Russia raised the death toll in a Ukrainian rocket attack on New Year’s Day to 89, the largest such loss it’s yet acknowledged in the war, blaming soldiers’ mobile-phone use for exposing their location, Bloomberg report. But Russian military bloggers accused commanders of negligence for stationing mobilized conscripts next to a weapons depot.
  • Bloomberg report that Russian wheat exports will double to 21.3 million tons in the first half on high global prices, a weak currency and the country’s largest grain stockpiles ever, according to consultant SovEcon. Demand for Russian wheat will be supported by limited competition with the EU, where stocks have been largely exhausted.
  • President Putin plans to hold talks with his Turkish counterpart, Erdogan, today, Interfax reports citing Kremlin spokesman Peskov.
