State-run Tass reporting comments from Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, stating that Russia is ready to consider any proposals on how to return "normality" to relations with the United States. Ryabkov's comments come at a tense point with regard to the US' support for Ukraine against Russia's invasion. The Biden administration is facing a logjam in getting all of the allocated military support to Ukraine before the change of power in Washington, D.C., while President-elect Donald Trump has not ruled out withdrawing US permission for Ukraine to strike inside Russia using its long-range missiles.
- On 17 Dec, the NYT reported "The Biden administration is unlikely to spend all of the remaining $5.6 billion that Congress has allocated to send weapons and other military help to Ukraine, a senior Defense Department official said on Tuesday. The administration plans to announce additional aid for Ukraine before the end of the year. But it would be difficult to rush the amount that is left to the battlefield before the Trump administration begins next month, the official told reporters at a briefing."
- Speaking at a presser earlier in the week Trump said on the use of LR missiles, “Especially just weeks before I take over. Why would they do that without asking me what I thought? I think that was a big mistake,” he said. Asked by a reporter if he would consider reversing the decision once in office he responded: “I might yeah. I thought it was a very stupid thing to do.”
